American Dream
I am pleased to announce that my photograph, “American Dream” has been selected by the International Photography Hall of Fame for its “Earth Stories, Landscape and Human Activities” International Juried Photography Competition. Of the hundreds of exceptional submissions they received from photographers around the world, esteemed jurors Fabian Goncalves and Rafa Cruz of the Art Museum of the Americas chose only 25 photographs for the exhibition. They commented that they were particularly impressed with the quality, artistry and vision demonstrated by the work of all the finalists. I am honored that my work is included.
The photograph was taken in Mendocino, California on a overcast morning at a location just outside of town. I went with fellow photographer and good friend, Wes Thollander, to photograph a photogenic barn at this site, but evidently a wind storm over the winter created havoc and the roof of the barn caved in. Near the barn was this little house in a state of disrepair that attracted my attention My thoughts were many as I composed the photo - the American dream is in ruins; this house is not a home; the House that protects us can no longer function; and so on. It’s a visual metaphor for trying times.
